Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Kim Kardashian, Rihanna, Zooey Deschanel, Kaley Cuoco, Demi Lovato, Kristin Chenoweth, Neil Patrick Harris and Julianna Hough are among the stars who have tweeted their shock and expressed condolences to his family.  According to the "Hollywood Reporter," Monteith's co-star Mark Salling simply tweeted the word "no" moments after hearing, which was instantly retweeted over 12,000.

Monteith was one of the breakout stars of "Glee" in 2009, which he starred in alongside his on and off screen girlfriend Lea Michele, Matthew Morrison, Chris Colfer and Jane Lynch.  The world first took notice of him as Finn, the wholesome high school football jock whose season one performances like "Don't Stop Believin'," "Jessie's Girl" and "I'll Stand By You" helped to make the Fox musical comedy a hit. He won a Teen Choice Award in 2011, as well as a Screen Actors Guild Award as a part the show's ensemble cast in 2010.

The Calgary, Canada native had been open about his trouble with drug and alcohol abuse as a teenager, and entered rehab for the first time at age 19.  He had sought treatment again back in April.

An autopsy to determine the cause of death has been scheduled for Monday, but police say no foul play is suspected.
